Tripura cricket association appoints former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener as coach

Lance Klusener, the ex-South African all-rounder, has been appointed as a consultant by the Tripura Cricket Association for the upcoming domestic season.

Klusener, widely regarded as one of the top all-rounders during his prime, represented the Proteas (South Africa) from 1996 to 2004.

The veteran cricketer played 49 Test matches and 171 ODIs for South Africa and was part of the Proteas side which reached the semi-final of the 1999 World Cup.

Timir Chanda, the vice-president of the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA), disclosed that Klusener as an experienced coach, will offer his expertise to all of the state’s teams, not limiting himself solely to the Ranji Trophy squad.

Klusener’s tenure as a consultant is anticipated to last approximately 100 days, commencing with a 20-day training camp in Agartala.

TCA vice president Chanda verified this information by stating, “We had posted a job advertisement on our website a few weeks ago, and both Lance and Dav Whatmore applied for the position. Although Dav withdrew later due to personal responsibilities, Lance expressed his keen interest in accepting the offer”.

Following his retirement from international cricket, Klusener has worked as a coach with various teams like Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and several franchise teams including one franchise in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
Chanda further stated, “Lance’s extensive experience will be of great benefit to cricketers of Tripura. It is indeed a source of pride for us to have someone of his caliber joining Tripura as a consultant.”

Lance is scheduled to depart for Kolkata on Friday and will arrive in Agartala the following day.
