Tripura: Indo-Bangla border in Sepahijala to be sealed from Sep 3 for bypolls

In preparation for the Tripura Assembly bypolls, the election officer for Sepahijala district has issued an order to close off the India-Bangladesh border near Sonamura. This measure aims to prevent the movement of individuals from both sides.

The border closure will be in effect from 7 am on September 3 until the conclusion of polling on September 5 in the Boxanagar and Dhanpur constituencies within Sepahijala district.

Notably, this restriction will not be applicable to Border Security Force personnel, other security personnel, and government officials.
Among the total of 93,234 voters, 43,087 reside in Boxanagar, and 50,147 in Dhanpur. The votes will be counted on September 8.

The death of Samsul Haque, a long-serving CPIM leader and MLA for Boxanagar, along with Pratima Bhoumik’s resignation as the MLA for Dhanpur have triggered the need for these by-elections. Bhoumik stepped down the MLA position to assume the role of a Union minister of state.

For the by-elections, both the ruling BJP and the CPIM have nominated their candidates. However, the Congress and TIPRA Motha have not yet fielded their candidates and have not yet decided whether to support the CPIM.
