The Election Commission has banned opinion polls and exit polls in view of the Tripura assembly election to be held on February 16.
Chief Election Officer Kiran Gitte held in a meeting with journalists and political parties at the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office in Agartala.
He said that this ban has been issued according to the instructions of the Election Commission of India.
Exit poll and opinion poll will be closed till 7 pm on February 27. Gitte discussed the restrictions on political campaigning under section 126 of the RP Act 1951 during the silence period, which will be from 4:00 PM of 14th February to 4:00 PM of 16th February 2023.
He requested the journalists not to telecast or publish any wrong news on the election day and the day before the election. Experts believe that the Election Commission issued this order to stop political conflicts.
