TSF Tripura Bandh evokes no response

The Twipra Students Federation (TSF), an indigenous student group in Tripura, initiated a widespread disruption by organizing a day-long shutdown and protests across the state.

They demanded the use of the Roman script for Kokborok language and urged the swift introduction and enactment of the 125th Amendment Bill in Parliament, with immediate implementation in Tripura, in the best interest of the state’s people.
Notably, Kokborok is the language spoken by the largest sections of indigenous people in Tripura.

The TSF-led demonstrations occurred in various locations including Agartala, Bishramganj, Hatai Kothor, Sonamura, Hezamara, and other areas in Tripura.
Tripura Police deployed a significant number of personnel, including Tripura State Rifles Jawans and CRPF throughout the state.
Several individuals were detained during the protests, and the road blockades were eventually resolved by the authorities.

Despite our repeated requests and our refusal to take exams in English or Bengali, the state government has not taken any steps to address our concerns.” She claimed that the police had issued a 15-minute warning to clear the road.
Debbarma stressed that they had been waiting for 70 years for their demand to be met, specifically, the adoption of the Roman script for the Kokborok language.
