Two officials from Information and Cultural Affairs Department were suspended today with immediate effect for misleading Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Who is holding the portfolio of the Department.
Joint Director Bishnu Das and Senior Information Officer Promode Acharjee who were responsible for clearing the newspaper bills before Mahalaya in a brazen manner misled the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb were put on suspension and their outstation movements were restricted.
By Tradition ICA department clears the newspaper bills before Mahalaya so that employees of the Media can be paid their bonus etc.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also sanctioned Rs 1crore for the Purpose, But the two concerned officers were reported to have failed to comply with the Chief Minister cum ICA minister’s order.
No local newspaper was paid the bill. Durga puja passed and the non payment was again brought to Chief Minister’s notice. “When I took up the matter with the Chief Minister he said as far his knowledge went the money had already been given to the newspapers”, said Dey
The Chief Minister then asked Kumar Alok Principal Secretary to look into the issue. ICA secretary M L Dey under direction from the Principal Secretary sought a report from the department in this regard.
It was then once again the two officials misled the senior officers and in turns the Chief Minister. They claimed that bills were all cleared.
The ICA top brass then pressed the matter further. At last Bishnu Das and Promode Acharje enconfessed yesterday that the bills were not cleared.
