West Bengal: Journalist who was actively reporting on Sandeshkhali violence arrested

Republic TV journalist, Santu Pan, was arrested by the West Bengal police in Sandeshkhali on Monday.

Journalists’ associations and press clubs across the country on came together to strongly condemn the attack on reporting, stating the arrest of R Bangla reporter Santu Pan is the “murder of the fourth pillar of democracy”.

Sandeshkhali in West Bengal’s North 24-Parganas district has been tense with a large number of women in the locality accusing Trinamool Congress strongman Shajahan Sheikh and his supporters of ‘land-grab and sexually assaulting’ them under coercion.
