Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured after they were allegedly attacked by a group of suspected smugglers in the Ashabari area near the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Boxanagar on Monday.
According to reports, the incident took place when BSF personnel intercepted suspected smugglers allegedly attempting to transport illegal goods across the international border. After one suspect was detained, a crowd reportedly gathered at the spot and attacked the security personnel with sticks and bamboo.
The attackers allegedly attempted to snatch firearms from the BSF personnel and also vandalised a BSF vehicle during the confrontation. The injured personnel were subsequently shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Police have arrested eight individuals in connection with the incident. Further legal action is expected as the investigation proceeds.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha strongly condemned the attack and directed the authorities to take swift and stringent legal action against those involved.
The incident has raised serious concerns over the safety of border security personnel engaged in preventing cross-border smuggling activities.
