Agartala, July 1: The Agartala Press Club on Wednesday strongly condemned a social media statement made by BJP’s state IT Cell in-charge, Chandan Debnath, regarding the media in Tripura, describing the remarks as insulting, undemocratic and inappropriate.

In a statement, the Press Club said it had taken serious note of Debnath’s comments and expressed concern that such remarks undermine the dignity and credibility of the state’s media fraternity.
The Club highlighted Tripura’s rich journalistic tradition, noting that the state’s media has earned recognition and appreciation across the country over the years. It also recalled the significant role played by Tripura’s newspapers and journalists during the Bangladesh Liberation War, describing their contribution as a matter of pride.

The Agartala Press Club stated that comments targeting Tripura’s media and journalists are unwarranted, offensive and amount to an attempt to malign and humiliate the press.
Condemning the statement in the strongest terms, the Press Club urged that such irresponsible remarks against journalists and media organisations should be avoided and reiterated its protest against the comments.
