JOLAIBARI: An alleged assault involving an auto-rickshaw driver, his son and passengers over the collection of Durga Puja donations has triggered tension in the Jolaibari area of South Tripura.
According to reports, the incident took place on Saturday when Lakshmi Mohan Tripura was returning from Birchandra Manu Bazar with passengers in his tom-tom (auto-rickshaw). The incident allegedly occurred near Jolaibari Outpost and reportedly involved members of the Durga Puja Committee of the Bagantila area in North Jolaibari.
Lakshmi Mohan Tripura alleged that when he attempted to park his vehicle by the roadside, members of the Puja committee attacked him. He further claimed that his son and a female passenger travelling in the vehicle were also assaulted.
Following the incident, Lakshmi Mohan Tripura lodged a complaint at Jolaibari Outpost. He and his son are currently undergoing treatment at the Jolaibari Health Centre.
The incident has reportedly created tension in the locality. Further details regarding the incident and the police response are awaited.
