BJP Worker Succumbs To Death In Poll Violence in Tripura

“CPIM’s culture is violence. They incite violence. This is why they have fallen. They continue violence in different ways in the state. CPIM is showing courage to carry out violence in various ways in the entire state”, Former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma said this while standing near the Tapan Bhowmik’s dead body in the Gurkhabasti area in Agartala on Monday.


While showing condolences to agitators in this regard, Jishnu Debbarman said that the death of Tapan Bhowmik is painful.

He added, “I want it to be properly investigated. I heard that so far two accused have been arrested by the police, two others are absconding”.

Former Deputy CM Jishnu Debbarma stood by the agitators and ordered the senior officials of the local police to quickly complete the investigation in this regard.

He told the agitators that he would speak to the Chief Minister about the matter. It is noted that Tapan Bhowmik was known as one of the active BJP functionaries of Barajala assembly constituency.

Meanwhile, former Deputy CM Jishnu Debbarman as well as former MLA Dilip Das assured the protestors that none of the accused will be released.

A large number of BJP supporters blockade the VIP road in the Gurkhabasti area of the city on Monday demanding the arrest of the miscreants.

The blockade, however, was lifted later in the afternoon with the intervention of former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and the police administration

Reports suggest that allegations of police negligence in arresting the culprits have also been raised.

Eight BJP workers were injured in an attack by CPIM-backed miscreants after the declaration of assembly election results in Tripura on March 2.

8 BJP workers including Tapan Kumar Bhowmik were attacked in Gorkhabasti area after CPIM candidate won 4-Barjala assembly constituency.
