Sepahijala, Aug 18: A young couple tragically lost their lives in a road accident this afternoon while returning from the Kamalasagar Kali Temple in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.
The deceased have been identified as Dibakar Ghosh (28), Assistant Manager of Tripura Gramin Bank, and his wife Priyanka Ghosh (26).
The accident occurred around 3:30 PM at Gakulnagar, near the second gate of the 1st Battalion TSR headquarters, when the couple’s scooty collided head-on with a speeding Maruti Echo car.
Eyewitnesses said the impact of the crash was so powerful that the victims were thrown nearly 15 to 20 feet from the road. Locals rushed to their aid and, with the help of a TSR ambulance and a private vehicle, shifted them to Bishalgarh Hospital. Dibakar was later referred to TMC hospital, but both succumbed to their injuries soon after.
According to family members, the couple was traveling on the scooty while other relatives were following them in a car towards Sepahijala boat ghat. Tragedy struck just moments before they could reunite.
