Cyclone Yaas makes landfall; Digha in West Bengal faces strong winds, high tides

Cyclone Yaas will cross the coast between Odisha’s Dhamra and Balasore, which is 150 km south of Kolkata, within the next two hours, with winds up to 140 km per hour and gusts of 155 km per hour. At 9.30 am it was 30 km south-southeast of Balasore.

As Cylone Yaas intensifies, Digha in West Bengal faced high tides and strong winds. As per IMD report, Cyclone Yaas is going to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm in next 12 hours. The cyclone is likely to cross Odisha-WB coasts between Paradip and Sagar Island around Balasore on May 26.

Cyclone Yaas, which is predicted to make landfall sometime on Wednesday afternoon in Odisha, has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm.

The Indian Meteorological Department says that at the time of the landfall, Cyclone Yaas is likely to be in the ‘very severe cyclonic storm’ category. However, some experts suggest that since the storm has been formed closer to land, it won’t get time to travel much longer and may not be that powerful.
