AGARTALA: Veteran CPI(M) leader and former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Gauri Bhattacharya passed away on Saturday at her residence due to old age-related ailments. She was 92 years old.

A prominent figure in Tripura’s political and social landscape, Bhattacharya was actively involved with the Left and women’s rights movements for several decades. She served as a dedicated activist and leader within the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) for many years.

Bhattacharya entered the Tripura Legislative Assembly in 1977 after winning the Barajala constituency seat.
