Howrah River Crosses Warning Level, Administration Keeps Close Watch

Agartala, July 10: The water level of the Howrah River at Jahar Bridge in Battala has continued to rise following incessant rainfall, crossing the warning level and prompting authorities to closely monitor the situation.

According to the Water Resources Sub-Division, Agartala, the river’s water level was recorded at 10.34 metres at 4:00 PM on Friday (July 10). The warning level of the river is 9.86 metres, indicating that the water has already exceeded the warning mark. However, it remains below the critical level of 10.72 metres and the danger level of 11.22 metres.

The department has fixed the extreme danger level at 11.72 metres, while the highest flood level ever recorded at the gauge station was 12.05 metres on August 22, 2024.

Officials said the river is under constant surveillance, and the administration is keeping a close watch on the evolving situation. Residents living in low-lying and riverbank areas have been advised to remain alert and follow official advisories as further rainfall may lead to a rise in the river’s water level.
