West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said that the highest levels of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership were doing the worst kind of political vendetta.
She said this in regard to the CBI trying to locate the Kolkata police chief Rajeev Kumar to question him in connection with Rose Valley and Saradha ponzi scams.
In a tweet, Banerjee said, “Not only are political parties their targets, they are misusing power to take control of the police and destroy all institutions.”
“We condemn this,” Mamata Banerjee said.
In a follow-up tweet, Banerjee defended the Kolkata police chief and said that Rajeev Kumar’s integrity, bravery and honesty was unquestioned.
“He is working 24×7, and was on leave for only one day recently When you spread lies, the lies will always remain lies,” Mamata Banerjee said.
The IPS officer, who led a Special Investigation Team of West Bengal Police probing the scams, has to be questioned regarding missing documents and files but he is not responding to notices to appear before the agency, officials have said.
