Agartala, Aug 18: Questions have recently been raised regarding the appointment of doctors in the government recruitment process, despite some candidates reportedly scoring only 14 out of 100 marks.
Reacting to the issue, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that while it is positive that doctors are finally being appointed in the medical sector after a long gap, quality must not be compromised. “If the appointment is made without judging the competence of the doctor, it can prove counterproductive,” he cautioned.
He further emphasized the importance of doctors having adequate general knowledge and a strong foundation in medical science. “If basic knowledge is lacking, the patient’s problems may increase further,” Sarkar said.
Expressing concern, the former Chief Minister warned that assigning crucial responsibilities to candidates with such low scores could be dangerous. He urged the government to revise the current appointment policy and ensure patient safety remains the top priority.
