Agartala, Sept 24: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today informed the State Assembly that adequate manpower and equipment have been deployed to keep National Highway No. 208 navigable and to prevent disruption in road connectivity.
Responding to a notice brought by MLAs Nirmal Biswas and Shailendra Chandra Nath, the Chief Minister said that the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), responsible for the road’s maintenance, is continuously monitoring the situation at various levels.
He further informed that the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways had conveyed the matter to him through a letter dated July 22.
Explaining the road network, the Chief Minister stated that the route from North Tripura to Agartala via Kailashahar-Kamalpur-Khowai is divided into three highways. The Kailashahar-Kamalpur-Khowai stretch is connected by NH-208, the Khowai-Agartala stretch by NH-108B, and the Kurti-Kailashahar stretch by NH-208A.
Among these, NH-208 has suffered the most damage. Due to heavy rainfall during the monsoon, pavements have been damaged at several places and signs of settlement have appeared. Multiple complaints have been received in this regard, which were also highlighted in various newspapers, he added.
