The NorthEast Coconut Growers Conference was held on Friday for the first time in the state. About 700 coconut farmers of Tripura participated in this conference organized by the Coconut Development Board.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath inaugurated the conference organized at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.
The conference informed the present farmers through technical sessions about socio-economic development of Tripura through commercial production of coconut along with scientific method of coconut cultivation.
Inaugurating the NorthEast Coconut Farmers’ Conference, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath said that the newly formed government will work to build ‘Ek Tripura Srestho Tripura (Better Tripura and Better Tripura).
He said, “India ranks second after Indonesia in coconut production in the world. Coconuts and coconut trees are all needed for various needs of daily living”.
Ratanlal Nath also said that according to a survey, about 1 lakh 15 thousand rupees are spent to create 1 hectare of coconut plantation, while the income from this is about 4 lakh 10 thousand rupees.
He added, “Coconut Development Board’s nursery on 22 hectares of land at Hichachara in South Tripura has targeted the production of about 120,000 coconut seedlings from this year.
Besides, initiatives will also be taken to set up a regional coconut nursery under the initiative of Tripura Department of Horticulture and Land Conservation”.
