Khowai | November 2, 2026: Political tension gripped Khowai city on Monday morning following allegations of widespread obstruction during the nomination submission phase for the upcoming municipal council elections.

Leftist leadership, activists, and supporters staged a protest march and road blockade, accusing the ruling party of interfering with the democratic process.

According to Left Front leaders, opposition candidates faced deliberate hurdles while attempting to file their nomination papers. Protesters alleged that the ruling party deployed a “bike army” to intimidate candidates and disrupt the opposition’s election campaign.

Demanding the protection of democratic rights and the assurance of free and fair elections, activists took to the streets, where they initiated a major road blockade.

The blockade and subsequent demonstrations brought localized traffic disruptions and heightened security concerns in the area.

Law enforcement and administrative authorities are closely monitoring the situation as political friction intensifies across Khowai with the approach of the municipal elections.
