Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, royal scion of Tripura and founder of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), appeared before the West Tripura District and Sessions Court on Thursday in a defamation case dating back to 2023.
The case stems from allegations against Agartala resident Saikat Talapatra, who reportedly used racial slurs—referring to Pradyot and the indigenous people of Tripura as “Chinese,” “Chinese aunty,” and “Chinese dalal.” Following a First Information Report (FIR) filed by Pradyot, Talapatra was arrested and charged under the Special ST/SC Act, 2023.
Speaking to reporters outside the court, Pradyot voiced his disappointment over the incident. “These remarks were directed not only at me but at our entire community. It is very sad. I must defend my people and my family from being labeled in such a manner,” he stated.
