Border Security Force in yet another record breaking achievement has seized 2267.360 grams of Gold worth Rs. 96 lakhs approx., thereby giving another severe jolt to trans-border smugglers in the first month of the year.
The yellow metal by far is the biggest catch in the preceding years.
Acting on specific input, BSF troopers of Border Out Post West Joynagar under Police Station Agartala West swiftly laid a special ambush in the target area in close proximity of International Border.
During the course of operation, troops observed a suspected person approaching from Village Joypur South situated ahead of IBB Fence. After crossing over the Gate, when the said suspect was trying to flee away from the spot, he was apprehended by the special ambush party. During the preliminary questioning, he revealed his identity as Jahangir Miah, Age-52 years S/o Late Badshah R/o Village Joypur, Joynagar, Agartala West. During search, 12 Gold Biscuits and 04 Gold Bars weighing 2267.360 grams worth Rs. 96 lakhs (approx.) were recovered from his possession.
Apprehended person along with seized items handed over to DPF Customs Agartala.
It is pertinent to mention that recently, BSF and DRI seized a haul of 1,68,500 Yaba Tablets worth Rs. 8.52 Crores (approx.) on 2nd Jan 2019, which is the biggest seizure in this region so far.
