Tension at Dharmanagar District Hospital Over Patient’s Death

Dharmanagar, August 6, 2026 — Tension escalated at the Dharmanagar District Hospital in North Tripura on Thursday following the death of a 55-year-old patient, as family members alleged medical negligence while the attending doctor denied any wrongdoing.

According to the family of the deceased, Jalal Uddin, a resident of the Batarshi area, was brought to the hospital in critical condition. The doctor on duty ordered an electrocardiogram (ECG) to assess his condition. However, family members claimed that the primary ECG machine malfunctioned, causing a delay while staff retrieved a secondary unit. They allege that Uddin died during this delay due to negligence in providing prompt care.

Conversely, the doctor on duty, refuted the allegations, stating that the patient was brought dead to the hospital. Following the incident, family members lodged a written complaint against the doctor at the Dharmanagar Police Station.

Local police confirmed that a formal investigation has been launched based on the family’s complaint. Authorities stated that the official cause of death and whether any medical negligence occurred will be determined upon completion of the inquiry.
