Agartala: September 11: In a momentous ceremony held today at the official residence of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, three UPSC aspirants of Tripura who cleared the Prelims examination, were honored with the prestigious ‘Lakshya-Chief Minister’s Special Scholarship’.
Each aspirant was presented with a grant of Rs. 5 lakh, marking a significant milestone in their pursuit of excellence.
The three outstanding UPSC Aspirants are Joy Debnath from Shantirbazar, South Tripura, Jyotishman Chakma hailing from Abhaynagar, Agartala and Victor Debbarma, a resident of Krishnanagar in Agartala.
The Chief Minister, along with Director of Higher Education Department NC Sharma and other esteemed officials, presided over the event.
Speaking at a press conference, Dr Saha said the state government’s unwavering commitment to nurturing and encouraging the aspirations of the youth in Tripura to excel in the Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Under the ‘Lakshya-Chief Minister Special Scholarship’ scheme, candidates who successfully clear the UPSC Civil Services Examination Preliminary, proceed to the Mains stage, and ultimately conquer the Oral Test, become eligible for this esteemed award. Notably, recipients are entitled to a one-time scholarship of Rs 5 lakh upon passing the preliminary exam, followed by an additional one-time grant of Rs 20 thousand upon clearing the main exam, resulting in a total scholarship of Rs 5 lakh 20 thousand for those who triumph at both levels.
It should be noted that till now 4 candidates of the state have received scholarships in this scheme. Out of this, 1 person got it in the financial year 2020-21 and 3 people got it in the current financial year.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the Higher Education Department of the state is diligently overseeing the implementation of this visionary project.
“Eligibility criteria dictate that candidates must be permanent residents of Tripura, and their annual family income should not surpass Rs. 10 lakh to be considered for this prestigious scholarship”, he said.
