Tripura Police seized a huge amount of cannabis worth 4 lakh rupees from Mungiakami under the Khowai district’s Teliamura sub-division on Friday.
According to police sources, the incident occurred in the area adjacent to a market under the Mungiakami police station on Friday morning at 7 am when the police detained a 6-wheeler truck.
Teliamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prasun Kanti Tripura got a secret message that a 6-wheeler container truck bearing number ‘MH 05 AM 2084’ with a huge amount of cannabis is on the way to Assam to leave Tripura.
Police along with CRPF jawans and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) sat on the national highway soon after the information and started checking vehicles
Police said, “The container vehicle numbered MH 05 AM 2084 was seen coming from Teliamura towards Mungiakami on Friday at around 10 AM in the morning. We detained the truck and during the search we seized 350 KGs of cannabis kept in 35 packets”.
Police added that the estimated market value of the seized cannabis is around Rs 4 lakh.
Police have arrested the driver and the helper of the truck.
The police official said that an inquiry has already started through the legal process regarding the source and destination of the seized cannabis.
