41st Death Anniversary of Indira Gandhi Observed in Tripura

Agartala, November 1: The 41st death anniversary of late former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was observed with befitting honours at the Tripura Pradesh Congress Bhavan today. Party leaders, workers, and supporters gathered to pay floral tributes and recall her immense contribution to the nation.

Indira Gandhi, India’s first and till date only female Prime Minister, was the only child of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. From a young age, she showed a keen interest in national affairs and politics. In 1947, when India gained independence and Nehru assumed office as the first Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi stood by his side, assisting him in political and administrative matters.

Elected as Prime Minister in 1966, Mrs. Gandhi played a pivotal role in shaping India’s modern political and economic landscape. Her ‘Green Revolution’ significantly boosted India’s self-sufficiency in food production. She also led the nation during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, which ultimately resulted in the creation of Bangladesh.
