The Department of Power, Govt. Of Tripura has initiated a pro-people development plan to generate revenue for the state through Electricity Duty levied through the sale or consumption of electrical energy.
While this has been implemented in a few other states, Tripura as a state had not benefited from power trading as much as it potentially could in the past.
With the new effective relationships with other states and countries, we expect an additional income of ₹10 crore a month through the Electricity Duty itself.
However, bearing the interests of the common people, the Kutijyoti consumers and the consumers having electricity consumption less than ₹400 (accounting for 51.68% of the poor households) have been exempted from the duty.
The development of the state should never come as a burden to the poor, rather the additional income shall be instrumental in providing better services to one and all – Minister Jishnu Dev Varma
