Seventy companies of central armed police forces have been deployed in Tripura to ensure security during the Lok Sabha elections.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Puneet Agarwal said, “These forces are conducting various activities such as flag marches, area domination, and patrolling to maintain law and order.
The polling dates for the West Tripura and East Tripura constituencies are scheduled for April 19 and 26, respectively.”
He added, “The nomination process for the West Tripura constituency will begin with a notification on Wednesday, and candidates can submit nominations until March 27, with scrutiny taking place on March 28 and withdrawals allowed until March 30.
A notification will be issued on March 28 for the East Tripura constituency and candidates can submit nominations till April 4.
The nomination papers will be scrutinised by April 8. The votes from both constituencies in Tripura will be counted on June 4, and the entire election process will be completed by June 6.”
The CEO Puneet Agarwal, emphasized that the model code of conduct was in effect, warning all political parties against using foul language, making unverified allegations, or personal attacks during their campaigns.
He also cautioned against the ruling party misusing government machinery for campaigning. Each candidate is allowed to spend a maximum of Rs 96 lakh per constituency.
Inspector-General GK Rao said, “Additional security personnel would be arriving in the state for the elections. There will be 3,350 polling stations across all eight districts of Tripura for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with 1,686 in West Tripura and 1,664 in East Tripura, which is 21 more than in the last Assembly elections.
A new polling station has been added in South Tripura for Bru migrants.”
CEO Agarwal further said, “We have added one additional polling station in the Laugang area of South Tripura for Bru voters.
Apart from this, all other Bru settlements have been allocated permanent voting locations.”
Additionally, all polling stations will be equipped with CCTV cameras, and voting will be live-streamed.
