On Tuesday, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organised a demonstration at Tripura Central University, calling for strict actions against an Assistant Professor from the university who has been accused of molesting a student during her viva examination.

ABVP activists claimed that the incident occurred at Tripura University on Monday during viva examination Philosophy, which was an elected subject chosen by the victim student.

Expressing concern over the distressing incident, an ABVP leader stated that the student had been deeply affected by the traumatic experience and had fallen ill, necessitating hospitalisation.

The ABVP leader urged the Vice Chancellor to promptly respond by suspending the professor from the university.

The victim’s family lodged a FIR with the Amtali Police Station, accusing the Assistant Professor of posing inappropriate and sexual questions to the student during the viva examination.

The family also alleged that the professor had threatened the student, coercing her into silence about the incident.

Regarding the matter, an official from Tripura University stated, “Yesterday evening, the girl arrived with her friends to meet me and appeared distressed. She conveyed that a teacher had allegedly behaved inappropriately towards her.”

The official further added, “We promptly notified the implicated teacher and initiated an investigation to ascertain the facts. However, before the professor could arrive, the girl fell ill and was urgently taken to the hospital. The Vice Chancellor has assured that strict action will be taken according to rules.”
