Two individuals, including an airline security executive, were apprehended for attempting to transport 40 kg of marijuana worth Rs 2 lakh on a flight from Agartala to Kolkata on Monday, according to a police official.

Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted the pair at the security checkpoint of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Tripura’s capital.

An employee of the airline has been arrested for smuggling cannabis in the plane. Ganja was being taken to Kolkata by Indigo flight. A security guard of Indigo Airlines was arrested from Agartala airport on tip-off. Agartala had been complaining for a long time that cannabis was being smuggled by plane on the Kolkata route, and the police are investigating the incident involving airline employees. The airline staff is being interrogated.

While one individual was found in possession of the contraband, the other, an airline security executive, was assisting in the smuggling operation.

Authorities believe that additional individuals may be involved in the smuggling of marijuana via flights.
