Agartala, Jan 24: Despite the Sepahijala district police conducting extensive operations this year to destroy cannabis plantations in various areas, following directives from the state police headquarters, serious allegations have emerged that millions of cannabis plants are still intact in several parts of the district.
According to sources, large-scale cannabis cultivation continues unabated in Sutarmura Gagan Sardar Para under Bishramganj police station, Kamalpur Ghatighar Two Lunga under Sonamura police station, and areas adjacent to Garu Bazar under Takarjala police station.
It is alleged that although the district police possess detailed maps and accurate information regarding these plantations, they have shown reluctance in carrying out anti-cannabis operations in the said areas.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that cultivators have already started harvesting the cannabis plants and transporting them to their homes. This has raised serious questions among the general public about the delay in action.
Concerned citizens have demanded that the police take swift and effective measures within the next one or two days to destroy the remaining cannabis plants and curb illegal cultivation in the district.
