Kailashahar, Tripura: A shocking incident was reported from the Boulaipasha area of Kailashahar on the day of Saraswati Puja, disrupting the festive atmosphere and triggering tension in the locality.

According to local sources, a group of miscreants gathered in the area armed with machetes and sticks. It has been alleged that they first began harassing girls who were moving around the area for the Puja celebrations.

When local Mandal president Pritam Ghosh protested against their indecent behaviour, he was attacked by the miscreants.

Sources further claimed that the accused had been planning the incident since Thursday night. When other locals protested against their criminal activities, the miscreants allegedly attacked them with machetes and sticks.

The situation worsened when the miscreants reportedly attacked and set fire to the house of Arup Dhar, district president of the Youth BJP. Following these, panic and tension spread across the area, forcing the police to fire several rounds in the air to bring the situation under control.

On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Police officials said a detailed investigation has been launched and efforts are on to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, the ruling party strongly condemned the incident and demanded strict action against the culprits.
