A bilateral meeting between the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Bangladesh and District Magistrates (DMs) of Tripura was held in Agartala Yesterday. DM of West Tripura, Dr. Sandeep N. Mahatme led the Indian delegation while Deputy Commissioner of the Comilla district of Bangladesh, Md. Abul Fazal Mir led the Bangladesh delegates which consisted of a total of 33 delegations.
Several important cross border issues like border fencing, human trafficking, drugs smuggling, Agartala- Akhuara rail link project and others between the two nations were discussed in the day-long meeting.
Speaking to media after the meeting, Mr.Sandeep said, three new locations have been identified by both sides for setting up of three border haats -at Paharmura-Habigang in Khowai district, Bamutia-Brahmanbaria in West District and Jagarampur-Comilla in Sepahilala district. He said a joint team from both the countries would visit the proposed sites on February 26.
Deputy commissioner of the Comilla district, Md. Abul said in the meeting, the governments of India and Bangladesh have decided to work together to solve the prevailing issues.
He said the delegates of both the countries have laid stress on fencing the unfenced stretches of Indo-Bangladesh International border to prevent crimes along with infiltration and smuggling.
