Biplab Kumar Deb, the former Chief Minister of Tripura and current MP, has been appointed the Chairperson of the newly formed Committee on Absence of Members from the Sittings of the House.

This appointment is a historic first, as Deb becomes the first Member of Parliament from Tripura to lead a parliamentary committee.

The committee, established by the Speaker, will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on the attendance of members in the Lok Sabha.
