On July 27, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), an ally of the ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura, had a meeting with the interlocutor AK Mishra in New Delhi.
According to Sukla Charan Noatia, an IPFT minister of the BJP-IPFT coalition government, the meeting focused on two main issues. Firstly, they discussed the rights of the indigenous people of Tripura. Secondly, they reiterated their long-standing demand for a separate Tipraland.
He further stated, “Our party (IPFT) has consistently advocated for the creation of ‘Greater Tipraland’ as it remains our core demand.”
The minister further said that an extensive discussion took place concerning the creation of a separate Tipraland and the request for adopting the Roman script for Kokborok.
He said, “The IPFT brought up the matter of the Constitution (125th Amendment) Bill, 2019, aimed at empowering the indigenous tribal population of the state.”
On a different note, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the former chairman of Tipra Motha is scheduled to meet with interlocutor AK Mishra on July 27 to address their primary demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’.
Pradyot stated that TIPRA Motha leaders are currently in Delhi to convene a meeting concerning their call for a constitutional resolution for ‘Greater Tipraland’.
He said, “We are in Delhi and have arranged a meeting with officials from the Home Minister’s office and interlocutor AK Mishra to discuss our fundamental demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’. The Indigenous People Front of Tripura (IPFT), which is a ruling ally of BJP in Tripura, is also conducting a meeting”.
