BJP vice-president of Tripura Subal Bhowmik quit BJP

BJP vice-president of Tripura Subal Bhowmik quit the BJP party and is set to join the Congress, which is expected to nominate him as party candidate in West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency.

I don’t want to stay in BJP as a burden. Some in the party have said that if I became an MP candidate the government may fall. This government has come to power after a long struggle against the Communist rule and I don’t want it to fall so soon! Bhowmik told media persons in Agartala.

Bhowmik’s decision comes after a late night meeting with newly appointed state Congress president Pradyut Manikya

Mr. Bhowmik’s dramatic decision preceded his midnight meeting with PCC president Pradyot Kishore Manikya. Mr. Manikya had reportedly agreed to nominate him in to the West Tripura constituency

Subal Bhowmik said a large number of his supporters will accompany him to the Congress Bhavan to renew his political career in the Congress. PCC general secretary Baptu Chakraborty termed Mr. Bhownik’s decision as “homecoming”.

“I am joining Congress today. Rahul Gandhi ji will announce my candidature from his rally at Khumulwng tomorrow,” Mr. Bhowmik told on March 19.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi will address an election rally on March 20 at Khumpui Academy ground in Khumulwng, headquarters of tribal autonomous district council, near Agartala.
