Agartala, July 15: In a sharp response to recent remarks made by Left leader and former MP Shankar Prasad Dutta, BJP workers and local residents of the Agartala Assembly constituency visited his residence today and handed over a statue of Lord Hanuman along with a copy of the Hanuman Chalisa.

The incident follows a recent program at Muktadhara where Shankar Prasad Dutt had allegedly referred to Lord Hanuman in an objectionable manner, calling him “Shundamarka.” The comment triggered strong reactions from BJP supporters and sections of the public.

Taking a stand against the remarks, BJP workers described today’s move as a symbolic protest and an effort to uphold religious sentiments. Locals also expressed their displeasure, accusing the former MP of disrespecting faith and tradition.

Security was maintained at the spot to prevent any untoward incident during the demonstration.
