The Border Security Force (BSF) detained a total of 744 individuals, including 112 Rohingyas, who were attempting an illegal entry into India from Bangladesh through the international border in Tripura.
This figure marked the highest in the past three years, surpassing the 369 infiltrators caught in 2022 and 208 in 2021 by the BSF Tripura Frontier.
A BSF official on Tuesday said, “In 2023, the BSF apprehended a record-breaking 744 infiltrators, which consists of 112 Rohingyas, 337 Bangladeshis, and 295 Indians. It is the highest number of infiltrator arrests in the frontier state over the last three years.”
He further said, “The BSF personnel have confiscated illicit items, including prohibited cough syrup, Yaba tablets, brown sugar and cannabis, with a cumulative value of Rs 41.82 crore.”
The officer added, “BSF seized 4 kg of gold. The BSF Tripura Frontier has consistently shouldered diverse responsibilities, safeguarding the border’s integrity, combatting insurgency, and thwarting various trans-border crimes, all while operating in challenging climatic conditions and remote, inhospitable terrain.”
