In a compassionate move reflecting timely political intervention, a cancer patient from Tripura has received crucial financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). This came after West Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb personally appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for support.
On April 28, 2025, Deb addressed a letter to the Prime Minister seeking financial aid for Mani Dey, a 33-year-old woman from Santirbazar in South Tripura district, who has been battling cancer. According to estimates provided by Tata Memorial Hospital, Dey’s treatment costs were projected at ₹6 lakh.
Responding to the request, the PMO sanctioned ₹3 lakh on May 26, 2025, to partially cover the expenses involved in her treatment. The sanctioned amount has since been transferred directly to Tata Memorial Hospital by IDFC Bank via NEFT/RTGS, as detailed in the official communication from the PMO. The transaction was executed under UTR No. IDFBR52025052300606421 on May 23, 2025.
The sanction letter further noted that the grant would remain valid for two years from the date of issue, with a stipulation that the hospital must commence treatment within a year. The released funds are to be utilized solely towards the patient’s admissible treatment expenses during this period.
