The Centre has extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, in ‘disturbed areas’ of Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh for a period of six months with effect from 1st of October.
In Manipur, the Ministry of Home Affairs extended AFSPA in the entire state, excluding the areas falling under the jurisdiction of 13 Police stations.
In Nagaland, AFSPA has been extended in nine districts. These districts are Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek, Peren and Meluri. In Arunachal Pradesh, AFSPA has been extended in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts and the areas falling within the jurisdiction of Namsai, Mahadevpur and Chowkham police stations in Namsai district, bordering Assam.
