It is very important to empower women in order to make the state self dependent, and for that, it requires to strengthen them economically. The present state government has been working on priority basis from the beginning to empower women, enunciated Chief Minister. Biplab Kumar Deb after inaugurating one-day workshop on National Parliament for Women’ at Muktadhara Auditorium today on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
He said, as the women will become financially strong, on one hand Tripura will move ahead and on the other hand there will be possibility that family abuse will also lessen. It will be possible to eradicate financial discrimination also in the society. The present state government is working to empower women by taking various plans. As a result of successful. implementation of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme, it was possible to stop female child i infanticide cases to some extent.
According to recent data, the population gap between men and women has narrowed. As the state government encouraged institutional child birth. system, it has been observed that 98% women are heading to hospitals for childbirth. As a result of which, death cases of child and mother has also decreased.
The Chief Minister said, only words will not suffice but women have to practically be empowered. The present state government has prepared different plans to take the state ahead. As a result of which, even the citizens residing in remote areas of Tripura are getting improved citizen centric services with transparency. He said, after the present state government took over, 10% seats have been reserved for women in Police department. For the first time in Tripur, 10% women were recruited in TSR. As a result, women of the state now have faith on transparent recruitment process of the government.
The Chief Minister also said, success is being observed one after another due to positive steps taken towards health system. It is becoming possible to treat complicated diseases in the state itself, which as a result has treatment facility in the state has regained public’s faith back.
Formation of Self-Help Groups by the state government is encouraging women to increase income opportunities. There are about 36-38 thousand SHGs in the state presently with about 3 lakh women members. He said, after the present government took over, the most significant step was linking rationing system with online system, as a result of which original consumers only are getting ration items.
Social Welfare & Social Education Minister Santana Chakma in the event said, Social Welfare & Social Education department is implementing different plans for the improvement of socio-economic condition of women of Tripura Women of the state should become more aware about these schemes and plans. Others present in the event were Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumdar, Sabhadhipati of West Tripura district Antara Deb Sarkar, Advocate General of Tripum Sidharth Sankar Dey, and Chairperson of Tripura State Women Commission Barmali Ghoswami. 10 women were felicitated with Bhubaneswari Matri Award, 2022
