Sabroom, Tripura:
Several residents of Sabroom Nagar Panchayat have alleged that they have been deprived of the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) after their housing applications were reportedly rejected without prior notification or an opportunity to correct errors.
According to the affected residents, a large number of applications submitted for housing assistance have allegedly been rejected directly by the Nagar Panchayat. Applicants claim that they were neither properly informed about deficiencies in their applications nor contacted to make necessary corrections before the applications were cancelled.
Residents have expressed serious concern over what they describe as a lack of communication and transparency in the application process. They allege that applications were rejected without notification, leaving applicants without a clear explanation of why their applications were cancelled.
The issue has reportedly caused frustration among families who were expecting assistance under the government’s housing programme. Some applicants claim that if there were mistakes or incomplete information in their forms, they should have been informed and, where permitted under the applicable rules, given an opportunity to correct the information rather than having their applications rejected outright.
Residents have also raised questions about the conduct of certain officials and elected Panchayat members. They allege that their concerns were not treated with sufficient sensitivity and that greater responsibility should be shown when dealing with applications for an important public welfare scheme.
The affected residents are now demanding a comprehensive review of the rejected applications. They want the authorities to provide clear reasons for each rejection and verify whether the applicants remain eligible for assistance under the relevant PMAY guidelines.
They have also urged the higher authorities to examine whether proper procedures were followed during the verification and rejection process. According to the residents, greater transparency is needed to ensure that eligible beneficiaries do not lose access to housing assistance because of correctable documentation issues or a failure of communication.
The applicants are particularly seeking clarification on why they were allegedly not notified about deficiencies in their applications and why they were not contacted before the applications were rejected. They have appealed to the concerned authorities to reconsider cases where corrections may be possible under the applicable rules.
The matter has highlighted concerns among local residents about the implementation of government welfare schemes at the grassroots level. The affected applicants are calling for an impartial review and appropriate action if any procedural irregularities are found.
The allegations made by the residents have not been independently verified. A formal response from Sabroom Nagar Panchayat and the concerned government authorities would be necessary to establish the facts and determine whether the prescribed procedures were followed.
