Chief Minister Shri Biplab Kumar Deb today appealed to the younger generation to stay away from all type of drug abuse and get involved in sports activities for a Fit Tripura.

He was speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of First edition of Agartala Half-Marathon Run (21.1 km) organized by Tripura Police on the occasion of National Youth Day, the birth anniversary of youth icon Swami Vivekananda.

Deb said, “Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is taking special initiatives for building a ‘Fit India’ and I also want to motivate youths of our state to build a Fit Tripura.”

Praised the role of Tripura Police for organizing the Marathon with the message – “Fit India, Fit Tripura” the Chief Minister said, “The Tripura Police is working round the clock to transform Tripura into a drug-free state and such activities like marathon is helping towards creating a positive atmosphere in the society. I hope, Tripura Police will continue its performance and organize such events even in the days to come.”

Around 400 participants including some senior police personnel and a good number of civilians took part in the Marathon.

“I am happy to know that DIG Headquarters Anish Prasad also took part in the Marathon. It’s really encouraging for others,” the Chief Minister said.

In reference to the state government’s mission for Nesha-Mukth Tripura, Shri Deb said, “The state government for the first time had brought 1100 clubs together and distributed sports kits among them so that the club members focus more on sports activities and which shall motivate them to keep away from drugs. It was a step towards building Fit Tripura, drug-free Tripura.”

Meantime, DGP in-charge Rajeev Singh along with the senior police officials attended the programme at Swami Vivekananda Stadium this morning.
