Electricity tariff has been increased in the state due to the abnormal rise in gas prices at the international level.

The Regularity Commission has decided to increase the electricity tariff by 7 percent after talking to all the concerned parties and reviewing all the issues.

Power Minister Ratanlal Nath gave this news at a press conference organized in the Press Conference Hall of the Secretariat this evening. The power minister said that there is no opportunity to increase the electricity tariff secretly.

There are certain rules for this. Basically, the regularity commission determines the electricity tariff in different states across the country. Newspaper notices were also issued for the purpose of seeking views on the increase in electricity tariffs in the state.

After hearing the State Advisory Committee, the Regularity Commission decided to increase the electricity tariff. The State Government or the Tripura State Electricity Corporation has no hand in this matter.

In a press conference, the power minister also said that even if the electricity tariff is increased by 7 percent, those who pay the electricity bill within 15 days will get a 5 percent discount on the total electricity bill.

In this case tea gardens will get 15 percent discount. The power minister said that the state government has launched a new branch called Tripura Power Transport Regularity for the overall development of the power system in the state.

This branch will mainly work on setting up of 33 KV sub stations, power cut, repair of various sub stations, recruitment of people, customer service etc. The Power Minister said that with the aim of providing uninterrupted power service in the state, the Power Department has undertaken various works with the funding of World Bank, Asian Development Bank, RDSS etc.

These include power transmission, installation of 132 KV, 33 KV substations, underground cable laying, covered conductor cable connection, replacement of old power lines.
