Earlier on August 16, Tripura Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha stated that the party would refrain from nominating candidates to support the opposition and prevent weakening of the anti-BJP effort.
Following this declaration, former minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on August 20 stated that the CPIM had not approached their party to seek support for their candidates in the upcoming by-polls.
These by-polls are slated for two constituencies, Boxanagar and Dhanpur Assembly Constituencies, both located in Sepahijala district of Tripura.
Notably, The CPIM has fielded candidates for both of these seats, namely Mizan Hussain in the Boxanagar and Kaushik Chanda in Dhanpur.
While speaking with journalists on Sunday, Roy Barman said, “In reference to the campaigning for the by-elections in Dhanpur and Boxanagar Assembly Constituencies, CPIM leaders have not approached us. We presume they are capable of managing it independently. Therefore, we have determined that the involvement of our state leadership is not required for this by-election.
