Heroin worth ₹ 10 crore seized in Tripura, 3 arrested

In a remarkable demonstration of professional competence and integrity, SP (north) Bhanupada Chakraborty successfully apprehended a significant quantity of illegal heroin at the Churaibari naka point on Monday morning.

According to police sources, the SDPO had received confidential information regarding a TATA Sumo vehicle transporting contraband heroin valued at Rs 10 crores through the Churaibari gate early in the morning.

Responding to this tip-off, Bhanupada discreetly proceeded to the naka point at Churaibari with three constables, namely Himangshu Das, Rajat Deb, and Joel Deb along with adequate arms and laid an ambush.
Notably, he kept the operation secret from the allegedly corrupt OC Samaresh Das and SDPO Debasish Saha of the Churaibari police station in Dharmanagar subdivision.

As predicted, the TATA Sumo vehicle arrived at the ‘Naka Point’ at 6:30 AM. Bhanupada and his team intercepted the vehicle and detained its three passengers, Samar Krishna Das (27), Abdul Ali (28), and Prasenjit Das (23), all residents under Kalamchaura police station.
Following a thorough search of the vehicles, Bhanupada and his team confiscated illegal heroin tablets valued at Rs 10 crores.

All the apprehended smugglers were charged under the NDPS Act and various sections of the IPC.

This incident also restored Tripura’s reputation, as a truck carrying cannabis had managed to cross Tripura and reach Assam without detection.

However, the cannabis weighing 594 kilograms, was eventually seized by Assam police and they questioned their counterparts in Tripura through a letter that how such a substantial quantity of cannabis had passed through the Tripura border unnoticed.
