CPI (M) state secretariat today welcomed the decision of Union Cabinet on empowering tribal councils of Northeast constituted under Sixth Schedule of the constitution.
In a press release, CPI(M) state secretariat today said, “The party has been demanding for separate outlay for tribal council from the Finance Commission long years ago. It is a welcome step that the Union Cabinet’s proposal of empowering tribal councils of Northeast by amending Sixth Schedule of the Constitution even as it is a late decision”.
The party also urged the Centre to ensure fund flow to the tribal council under Tribal Sub Plan or else devolution from Finance Commission will not be beneficial. “Unfortunately fund flow under Sub Plan to the tribal council has been reducing for the past few years, which is not a good signal”, it said.
