Left workers and activists demonstrated in the streets of Agartala city with a nine point charter of demands at Agartala on Thursday.

CPIM’s youth wing Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) led these protests, which also got support from other affiliated organisations such as Students Federation of India (SFI), Tribal Students Union (TSU) and Tribal Youth Federation (TYF).

However, security personnel got engaged into a brawl with protesting DYFI workers and used force as well as fired water cannons to disperse the agitators.

Security personnel reported tear gas shells, used water cannon and restored to heavy lathi charge.

The protestors broke the first barricade, which prompted the security personnel to use force and fire water cannons.

In the meantime, a DYFI activist, Security Personals also sustained injuries during the scuffle.

TSR personnel and police put barricades at Kunjaban area to thwart the rally from progressing further.

The protest rally that started from Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan marched across the city before being prevented by the heavy contingents of TSR, Police and CRPF personnel at Circuit House area.
