Agartala, June 1:
In a press conference held at the Mahakaran today, Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey provided detailed updates on the flood situation affecting various parts of Tripura due to heavy rains over the past few days.
He informed that so far, 10,600 people from 2,800 families have taken shelter in 60 relief camps across the state. Among these, 49 relief camps have been set up in West Tripura district, three each in Khowai and Unkoti districts, and six in North Tripura district.
The Revenue Secretary further stated that roads were blocked temporarily in parts of North Tripura, Dhalai, Unkoti, and West Tripura districts due to uprooted trees and landslides. However, quick action by teams from SDRF, Forest Department, PWD, and local volunteers ensured that the roads were cleared promptly.
To assist in rescue operations, 14 rescue teams have been deployed in the flood-affected areas — 11 teams in West Tripura and three in Unkoti district. Additionally, personnel from NDRF, three SDRF units, Assam Rifles, Civil Defence, Apadamitra, and Bharat Scouts and Guides are actively participating in the relief and rescue efforts.
During the briefing, the Revenue Secretary mentioned that initial reports indicated damage to 46 houses across Gomati, Khowai, Sipahijala, and North Tripura districts. Of these, 12 houses were completely damaged while 34 suffered partial damage.
As of 5 PM today, the Howrah River was flowing above the danger mark, though a gradual receding of water levels has since been observed. The state government continues to monitor the situation closely, and the Revenue Secretary urged residents to cooperate with the administration and adhere to official advisories and guidelines.
In a separate press conference, District Magistrate of West Tripura Dr. Vishal Kumar informed that 17 pumps were deployed to drain out rainwater in Agartala city after it received 173 mm of rainfall within two hours yesterday.
