Police seized approximately four kilograms of dried marijuana during a routine vehicle checking at Naka Point under Churaibari Police Station on the National Highway. Two alleged smugglers were arrested in connection with the incident.
According to police sources, the seizure was made while officers were conducting checks on a passenger bus travelling on the Agartala–Assam route in front of the police station. During the inspection, the suspicious movement of two youths onboard drew the attention of the police personnel.
Upon searching their bags, officers recovered dried marijuana concealed in five small and large packets. The contraband weighed approximately four kilograms.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Deherjjoy Riang and Shyamala Riang, both residents of the Anand Bazar police station area. The estimated black market value of the seized marijuana is around ₹1 lakh.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway, police added.
