Polling began at 8am on Thursday for the first phase of Gujarat assembly elections in 89 out of the total 182 seats and southern parts of the state to decide the fate of 788 candidates.

These 89 seats where voting is taking place are spread across 19 districts in Saurashtra-Kutch and southern parts of the state.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), 788 candidates are in the fray in the first phase.
